North Denver News - The Voice for the New North Denver
If you pay attention at all to Colorado politics you've likely heard about the surprise win by Darryl Glenn at Saturday's state GOP convention.
The El Paso County Commissioner and Republican primary candidate for U.S. Senate took a whopping 70 percent of the vote from the nearly 4,000 delegates after a rousing speech that some said shifted the race in his favor that afternoon.
Here's the stemwinder that now has top Colorado Republicans like Arapahoe-area District Attorney George Brauchler calling him Darryl “The Speech” Glenn.
Glenn was among seven Republicans running through the convention process and needed only 30 percent of the vote to make it onto the ballot.
By taking 70 percent, he shut out state Sen. Tim Neville, his fellow El Paso County Commissioner Peggy Litteton, businessman Jerry Natividad, computer programmer Charlie Ehler, disabled vet Jerry Eller, and write-in candidate Eric Underwood.
While Glenn ran a solid ground-game campaign, running for U.S. Senate for nearly a year and visiting many counties throughout the state, his afternoon convention speech may have pushed him over the top with new Republicans who were attending the convention and didn't know him until his barnburner.
