Students play active role in planning citywide events

Students at Denver’s Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Early College are working to honor the legacy of the man the school is named after. Members of the student body have been working to help coordinate and are participating in events in Denver that are celebrating Dr. King, including helping to organize the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Marade (March and Parade), the only one of its kind in the nation. The 5K Marade is taking place on Saturday, Jan. 18, beginning at 9 a.m. at City Park, 17th Ave. & Colorado Blvd., Denver, and ending at Civic Center Park in downtown Denver.

MLK’s Drumline and Step Team, followed by many other students, will lead the Marade. Students will be participating in the festivities as co-mistress of ceremonies, running with the ceremonial torch, and one student will perform a monologue as part of the festivities. Additionally, Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College Principal Kimberly Grayson is scheduled to deliver remarks at the event.

MLK students will be available to talk with members of the media at the Pre- and Post-Marade Ceremony as well as during the Marade about their efforts to help Colorado commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
